Daily Reading List – October 6, 2023 (#177)

My Google Calendar at work has this view that shows how I spend my time each week. Apparently I spent twenty six hours this week in meetings. Feels low, given I had eighteen meetings yesterday alone. Fortunately, I generally only attend meetings that are worth my time, but yah, it’s a lot right now. For relief, I read tech content!

[article] Overcomplicated Architecture: Scaling Bottleneck. Good talk and transcript about recognizing an overcomplicated architecture, and getting out of it.

[article] Latest DORA Report Highlights Importance of DevOps Culture. Check this out for a solid summary of the just-released DORA report.

[docs] LangChain integrations for Google Cloud. A peer pointed me to this, and it’s a nice summary of which Google Cloud services—LLMs, retrievers, vector stores, etc—work with the popular LangChain framework.

[article] Python developers won’t let go of Python 2. Here’s some new data showing that many folks are slow to adopt the newer versions of Python. I wonder why that is?

[blog] Simplify Testing Golang Apps with testcontainers-go. This is a very well-done tutorial with a complete walkthrough of the setup through the desired goal of testing a Go app.

[blog] How not to sacrifice user experience in pursuit of Kubernetes cost optimization. It’s not too hard to go overboard on your optimization efforts and degrade the user experience as a result. Try not to do that?

[docs] Migrate from AWS to Google Cloud: Migrate from Amazon EKS to GKE. Migrating from one cloud to another isn’t some push-button activity. There’s a lot going on. Guides like this make it feel more achievable.
