Daily Reading List – August 14, 2023 (#142)

The days are getting a noticeably shorter here in the Northern Hemisphere. When I lived in the Seattle area, it would bother me because I knew it meant dark, wet winter was around the corner. Now, not as much. Paying the sunshine tax has some privileges!

[blog] Exploring the Top Lightweight Alternatives to React in 2023. I don’t do much frontend work, but it’s good to be aware of what’s hot in this space.

[blog] Decoding the difference: artifacts vs packages in software development. Words mean things, and jumbling them up doesn’t help anyone. Here’s some clarity on what artifacts and packages are.

[blog] Using Google Cloud’s new Pricing API. It’s not unusual to have an API to return list prices. But I like that this new APi shows account-specific pricing that factors in discounts and such.

[article] HashiCorp’s software license turns realpolitik. Matt explores the licensing dust-up from last week. I get his points, and he’s probably right about parts of it. But I don’t like the license shift after a project finds mass appeal, and when the contributing company is doing great financially. Neither does Steven.

[blog] Announcing Direct VPC egress for Cloud Run: better performance and lower costs. Great feature that makes it much simpler for serverless devs to access private resources.
